Abstract
Background: Pressure ulcer prevention and care has been and remains a priority in nursing work in hospital clinical units, but there are still not many evaluation studies on pressure ulcers. in stroke units, especially in cases of severe stroke patients treated in emergency rooms and resuscitation rooms.
Objectives: To describe the current situation of pressure ulcers in stroke patients in the Emergency Department - Neurological Resuscitation Center, Bach Mai Hospital.
Methods: A prospective descriptive study, conducted on 156 inpatients in the ICU - Emergency room of the Neurological Center who met the study criteria from May 2022 to July 2022.
Results: Most patients with cerebral infarction (63.5%), over 60 years old (73.1%), male (62.2%), Glasgow score on admission was in the average coma group (9-12 points) (91%), 100% have motor paralysis and mainly the group of patients with high risk of ulcers (66.7%)
The rate of pressure ulcers was 18.6% (29/156), mainly grade I ulcers (69%), mostly at the locus of the coccyx (54.4%), 55.2% ulcers occurred in 5 years. the first day, 41.4% occurred during the next 5 to 20 days.
Some factors related to pressure ulcers: edema (p < 0.001), mechanical ventilation (p < 0.001), tracheostomy/intubation (p < 0.001),
Conclusion: With the results that 29/156 patients in the study had pressure ulcers during their hospital stay, accounting for 18.6%, this is a rather high rate for a large center of a first class hospital. especially and this is an issue that needs attention and needs to be improved. In addition, patients with comorbid conditions such as edema, mechanical ventilation, tracheostomy/endotracheal intubation have a higher rate of ulcers than patients with cerebral stroke alone.
