Abstract
Background: Stroke is a common disease, has a great impact on public health, is one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide, creating a huge burden on families and society. Data on clinical outcomes after stroke after 1 year in Tien Giang province have not been fully researched.
Objectives: Determine the cumulative mortality and recurrence rates at each time of the year and factors independently related to death and recurrence after acute ischemic stroke at 1 year
Methods: Prospective cohort study. Use Kaplan-Meier estimates to determine cumulative mortality and recurrence rates at each time of the year. At the same time, use the Cox regression model to determine factors independently related to motarlity and recurrence after acute ischemic stroke at 1 year.
Results: During 3 years, we collected 520 patients with acute ischemic stroke and followed them for 1 year. The cumulative rates of mortality and stroke recurrence at 1 year were 19.8% and 21.2%, respectively. Factors independently associated with mortality at 1 year included older age, living alone, atrial fibrillation, blood glucose at admission, pneumonia, and cardiac embolism. Factors independently associated with recurrence include low education level, history of stroke/TIA, history of myocardial infarction, atrial fibrillation, post-discharge statin use, and cardiac embolization subgroup..
Conclusions: Cumulative mortality rates at 1 month, 3 months and 1 year were 6.9%, 9.8% and 19.8%. Cumulative recurrence rates at 1 month, 3 months and 1 year were 5.4%, 7.1% and 21.2%, respectively.
